Day 2 - Weekend at The Standard

Bouncing Around the West Village...

You will find a few different posts sharing some insights to our fun fashionable weekend at The Standard High Line in NYC. Day two we decided to get out and bounce around the West Village. We hit some local shops, and wine bars along the way ending our evening at the Standard Hotel Biergarten. We had some cool "local finds" on our journey and we share the details below. Gourmet Cupcakes and Wine...

Sweet Revenge pairs designer cupcakes wine and beer together. We stopped in for sweet treat on our walk, and yes the cupcake was to die for!

Chocolates from Around the World, Designer Cooking Salts, & Unique Flavors of Bitters!

The Meadow in the West Village is a unique find and a mixed bag of creativity. They sell chocolate bars from around the world, hundreds of uniquely flavored cooking salts, and a wide selection of bitters.

Hundreds of chocolate bars from around the world to choose from. The flavor combinations are nearly endless.

This one took us by surprise... Charles enjoys an Old Fashioned now and then so we know about traditional bitters you can find at the grocery store. But, it turns out there are endless flavors of bitters. We bought some, and plan to create another post as we figure out how to whip up some unique cocktails or meals using some of these distinct flavors. Very cool!

PERSONAL STYLE...
What we are wearing...

What fun is a weekend in NYC if you don't dress it up a bit and play with fashion and style?

The Blue Suit...

If you don't have a strong blue suit, it's a must have. Blue is an approachable color, and sends a friendly message. This Hugo Boss suit has great summertime appeal because the fabric is light and breathes. I like to look professional and approachable when I am photographing parties and events, and on those hot summer days or nights, this is the perfect photographer suit!

Dress shoes are key in style, but for me they have to mean business. I am on my feet for 15 hours some days behind the camera at weddings and events. So comfort is very important. I tend to go with sportier dress shoes for this that don't have a heel. This is both for comfort, but also for being stealth-like. The rubber soles don't make a sound and I can be steady on my feet when I am working a steadicam or gimbal as well. These are my current favorites by Carlo Pazolini.

The Camera...

I am a big fan of the Panasonic Lumix GH4 right now, which I picked up at B&H Photo. It's incredibly light, which is liberating when you are bouncing around the city and don't want to be weighed down. All of the images in this post and the video above are all shot handheld on the GH4. As you can see it takes some gorgeous shots.

Interior Design by Arhaus + Outfit 1...

As we headed out the door towards the West Village, we stumbled upon a design showroom for Arhaus interior designs. As we walked through the showroom we were mesmerized by the possibilities, and reasonable price range of their furnishings. Another great find in our journey that day!

This sweater dress is Laundry by Shelli Seal, which I found at Nordstrom complimented by a leather jacket and scarf. The wedge heals are by Sam Edelman. I adore his designs as they are generally fun, flirty, and outside the traditional box.

The Standard Biergarten + Outfit 2...

The Biergarten at The Standard Hotel is always a lively spot. They serve craft beers, but also have a full bar as well. They offer light food options such as sausages and pretzels and it's open year round. After a nap and change of clothes we closed…

After a nap and change of clothes we closed our evening off here, which was a subtle but great end to a perfect day in NYC.

Just outside The Standard High Line currently is an art installation by the Friends With You Art Collective created by Samuel Borkson and Arturo Sandoval III known as the Art Cave.

Sweater Poncho by Michael Kors, Riding Boots by Vince Camuto, and a pair of skinny Levi Jeans.
