LUMIX GH5 + NYFW
It's been a busy week of booking weddings, testing out the new Lumix GH5, hitting up NYFW for a fashion show with our nephew, jamming with my band, and portrait sessions to boot. We love it when we have so much going on. We would rather be on the move both in life and work.
The Lumix GH5 showed up in the middle of this episode, so you will see a blend of footage here from multiple cameras. The Lumix GH5 fits in right alongside our other Lumix systems. We have been filming this series with the Lumix GH4, Lumix GX8, and Lumix GX85 for quite some time. You would be hard pressed to see the difference in the clips here as they cut together so well.
Like the Lumix GX8, the Lumix GH5 is sharp because of the removal of the low pas filter. However, it's a cut above because this is the first full feature system.
I tested the GH5 in 10bit 422
The shots at the beginning of the series of our house and nature, and the shots of Jennifer photographing in our clients home are all filmed that way. I also filmed in 8bit in some situations such as Jennifer talking to the camera in our photo studio. 8bit on the GH5 is much like the GH4 in that I can edit in FCPX with ease with high quality preview on my mac. I found that I had to lower the preview quality to edit the 10bit, or transcode to proxies. Whichever your workflow the end result of the export was gorgeous. I will most likely stick to 10bit on most projects in the future. I would never hand hold an interview shot on the GH4, but on the GH5 I will due to the 5 Axis stabilization. I look forward to saying goodbye to tripods in a lot of situations.
I will be posting more on this camera as we learn more, and get to spend more time with it. We have a busy week of travel coming up so I anticipate filming a lot. Look forward to sharing.
That's a wrap on our week! Cheers
