Rock’n it in my town, Savannah Georgia this week where I’m on the move on many creative fronts. In this episode I’ll share a glimpse behind the curtain of one of the most vibrant celebrations in the South – St. Patrick's Day in Savannah, Georgia! We’ll dive into the heart of the festivities, capturing the essence of the weekend which is filled with an array of parties and celebrations that go well above and beyond the parade itself.

We’ve developed a personal project called Savannah Proper, an online magazine dedicated to showcasing the city's art, culture, history, music, interesting people, and things to do in Savannah and the surrounding low country. It’s a way for us to give back to the community that has embraced us, makes use of all of our skills, and introduces us to a lot of interesting people. So, as you will see I’m exploring all kinds of narratives and bringing them to life. In this chapter I’m working on a story about writer Flannery O’Connor. Her childhood home and museum is here in Downtown Savannah.

Our vlog journey begins with my band Bryarwood, as we kick off St. Patrick's Day week in style at the Heritage Irish Festival. The air is electric, with hundreds of attendees joining us to celebrate. It's a joyous start to what promises to be an unforgettable week of parties. Bryarwood is an Americana cover band that leans a little bit towards country. But, we play a mix of country, folk, rock’n roll, and reggae hits from across the decades performing at venues all over the low country ranging from dive bars and honky tonks to high end resorts. We are also hired for corporate events, private events, and even an occasional wedding. We’re just some friends who love music, and brightening celebrations.

Next, we make our way to the iconic St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown Savannah. This is the 200 year anniversary and the streets are alive with color, music, and a palpable sense of community spirit. This parade a cherished annual event. For some it’s an epic party, and for others it’s a family tradition. Either way it’s a heck of an experience. My understanding is that it’s among the top 3 St. Patrick’s Day Parades in the world in terms of size. Folks come in from all over the world.

The fun doesn't end there. As the sun begins to set on St. Patrick's Day, we head to Tybee Island for the grand finale at Nickie's 1971. Here, Bryarwood takes the stage once more, bringing the festivities to a close. Tybee Island is just about 20 minutes, depending on traffic, from Downtown Savannah GA. It’s a small classic beach town community. There are no high rise hotels, and it has a sense of charm that is uniquely its own.

Whether it be music, photography and video assignments, painting, etc… our lives are in constant motion these days. We feel blessed to be in the creative zone on so many levels with the fruits of our labor being actualized with projects from so many angles. Sure keeps things interesting!

Hope you enjoy diving into these journey’s, and the magic of St. Patrick's Day in Savannah, Georgia from behind the scenes of our own real lives. And who knows, perhaps next year, you'll be joining us in person, dancing in the streets and making memories to last a lifetime.
